ElevenLabs collaborates with Star Sports to offer AI-driven real-time translations of cricket commentary in multiple Indian languages, enhancing accessibility for millions of fans.
In a groundbreaking move to enhance sports broadcasting, ElevenLabs is teaming up with Star Sports, the sports division of Jiostar, to deliver real-time AI-powered translations of cricket content across multiple Indian languages. This partnership aims to make cricket more accessible to the vast and diverse audience in India, according to ElevenLabs.
Revolutionizing Sports Broadcasting
With cricket being the most-followed sport in India, the demand for localized content is at an all-time high. The 2023 Cricket World Cup set new records, becoming the most-watched tournament in the country’s history. The Disney Star Network alone recorded an astounding 422 billion viewing minutes, with the final peaking at 59 million concurrent viewers.
This collaboration will see AI tools from ElevenLabs localizing pre- and post-match commentary into languages such as Hindi and Tamil. By doing so, cricket fans can enjoy the sport’s most thrilling moments in their native languages, enhancing their connection to the game.
Breaking Language Barriers
The initiative seeks to break down language barriers by using AI to regionalize cricket content. Cricket in India is a unifying force, with fans admiring players globally. By translating spoken content into regional languages, more people can access commentary and engage with their favorite players.
Looking ahead, ElevenLabs and Star Sports are set to expand these efforts with upcoming events like the Champions Trophy and the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. The goal is to enable near real-time translation of live commentary, starting with English and gradually incorporating additional regional languages.
Future Prospects
This partnership signifies a significant step forward in sports broadcasting, leveraging AI technology to cater to a linguistically diverse audience. As the collaboration progresses, more fans across India will be able to experience cricket in the languages they use daily, fostering a deeper connection with the sport.
