Disney’s Lorcana card is going big (and goofy) for its third year

Disney Lorcana, the trading card game from Ravensburger, is preparing for its third year with some surprises.

The game is about to release the Reign of Jafar set on June 6 (prerelease on May 30). And now Ravensburger has announced Lorcana’s ninth set, Fabled, launching on September 5 (prerelease on August 29).

Fabled will add new card rarities: Iconic and Epic. Iconic will become the game’s new rarest cards, while Epic ones will appear more frequently than Enchanted cards.

The set will also add cards based on A Goofy Movie, something that fans have requested since Lorcana’s start.

Lorcana is also getting a card rotation ruleset for competitive play. The new Core Constructed format will ban cards that only appear in the game’s first four sets. Infinity Constructed will allow players to use all cards.

“To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter,” said Ryan Miller, brand manager and co-designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, in a press release sent to GamesBeat. “But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”

Ravensburger is also releasing a Collection Starter Set for Disney and card game fans interested more in the collecting than battling.

More beloved Disney characters are coming in future Lorcana sets. This includes the cast from the 90’s cartoon Gargoyles. We’ll get them in the tenth set, Q4’s Whispers in the Well. Then in 2026, we’ll finally see Darkwing Duck come to Lorcana.

GamesBeat asked if a digital version of Lorcana is coming. Ravensburger told us that it has no plans to share yet, but it hears the community desire for one.
