Roblox fashion sphere grows as Bunka launches Digital Fashion Program

Roblox’s latest partnership with the fashion industry is the in-platform debut of the students at Tokyo’s Bunka Fashion College debuted their graduation showcase in the form of both physical pieces and digital avatar garb. The school created its Digital Fashion Program in partnership with Roblox and Dentsu Group, offering digital fashion design courses in addition to physical garment creation. Now students can sell their looks to Roblox avatars via the platform’s expanded e-commerce offering.
Bunka’s students created collections reflecting their personal brands, using Roblox Studio to create digital pieces and complimenting physical clothing. Bunka is following in the footsteps of Parsons School of Design, which debuted its digital fashion course on Roblox in 2023. Bunka’s students looks are available to view in a public exhibit, and users can also purchase and wear the students’ looks on their in-game avatars.
Creating in Roblox is already an accessible option for many creatives. Student Misato Baba told GamesBeat, “My dream was to make money by selling fashions for avatars. I’m fascinated by the idea that I don’t need to sew or sell physical goods, don’t have to maintain an inventory, and can deliver my clothes to people all over the world with just a computer. This is what inspired me to take on the challenge of creating on Roblox… Digital fashion is particularly important to me because it allows me to simultaneously reduce waste and become more efficient.”
Bunka president Sachiko Aihara said in a statement, “Our goal is to give our students the advantage of being at the forefront of today’s trends where technology is democratizing how fashion is created and worn, and the growing scale of people’s connections and interactions in the digital world dictates trends and defines style both in the digital and physical worlds. Future fashion brands will be both sewing and coding clothes, and Bunka graduates will be in the position to create sustainable global fashion brands that respond to the interests of digital-forward consumer generations.”
