Tether Investments acquires a significant stake in Elemental Altus Royalties Corp, enhancing its gold and hard asset-backed financial infrastructure strategy.
Tether Investments S.A. de C.V., an affiliate of the Tether Group, has made a strategic move to bolster its financial infrastructure by acquiring a substantial stake in Elemental Altus Royalties Corp. Elemental Altus is a Canadian-based, publicly listed company focusing on gold royalties. This acquisition aligns with Tether’s broader strategy to integrate stable assets like gold and Bitcoin into its ecosystem.
Details of the Acquisition
On June 10, 2025, Tether Investments acquired 78,421,780 common shares of Elemental from La Mancha Investments S.à.r.l., representing approximately 31.9% of Elemental’s issued and outstanding shares. This transaction was completed offshore through a private agreement, according to Tether’s official announcement.
Simultaneously, Tether signed an option agreement with AlphaStream Limited and its subsidiary, Alpha 1 SPV Limited. This agreement provides Tether the option to purchase an additional 34,444,580 Elemental common shares, contingent on specific terms and conditions, with the option exercisable after October 29, 2025, unless Elemental grants approval earlier.
Strategic Implications
This investment is part of Tether’s strategy to strengthen its ecosystem by incorporating tangible assets like gold. Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, emphasized the company’s commitment to a resilient and transparent financial system. He noted that just as Bitcoin serves as a decentralized hedge against monetary inflation, gold remains a reliable store of value.
Tether has previously disclosed holdings of over 100,000 Bitcoin and nearly 80 tons of physical gold, alongside its Tether Gold (XAUT) token, which is backed by physical gold. The acquisition of Elemental Altus Royalties provides Tether with a diversified exposure to global gold production through a royalty and streaming model, aligning with its preference for strategic, low-risk exposure to real-world assets.
Future Prospects
Tether Investments may seek further engagement with Elemental’s management and board to explore collaborative opportunities and governance participation, subject to regulatory frameworks and market conditions. The transaction complies with Canadian securities regulations and is exempt from formal takeover bid rules.
