YGG Launches Onchain Guilds on Coinbase’s Base Network
Yield Guild Games (YGG) has announced the launch of Onchain Guilds, a blockchain-based platform designed to help communities manage and verify their collective contributions.
The platform will operate on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer-2 network, which provides faster and more cost-efficient transactions. The Philippines, a global leader in web3 gaming adoption, will be the initial focus for this new initiative.
YGG aims to provide communities with tools to organize and document their collective achievements in a secure and cost-effective way. This aligns with their broader efforts to expand the use of blockchain technology beyond gaming and into other areas of digital collaboration.
What is Onchain Guilds?
Onchain Guilds allows groups—such as gaming teams, freelancers, and content creators—to record and manage their contributions using blockchain technology. The platform provides tools to document work, manage shared assets, and build group reputations through verifiable data stored on-chain.
“The reputation is on-chain for everyone to see. It’s inscribed in your wallet, so you own it—not a social network or any other platform,” said Gabby Dizon, founder of YGG.
This system removes reliance on centralized platforms for validating contributions, offering a transparent and decentralized approach to reputation management. YGG also plans to expand Onchain Guilds into non-gaming sectors, including AI data labeling and freelance work, building on its recent efforts to explore broader applications of blockchain.
Why is Base significant for this launch?
The platform will launch on Base, Coinbase’s Layer-2 network built using the Optimism Stack. Base enables faster and cheaper transactions whilst maintaining the security and decentralization of Ethereum. This is particularly relevant in the Philippines, where high transaction costs can limit access to blockchain tools.
The Philippines is a key market for web3 innovation, consistently ranking as one of the most active regions in web3 gaming. YGG Pilipinas has over 1.2 million members, and research from ConsenSys shows 96% of Filipinos are aware of cryptocurrency.
This makes the country well-suited for the introduction of Onchain Guilds, where communities can leverage blockchain to enhance collaboration and access new opportunities.
